INTERNATIONAL PIANO COMPETITION OF THE WIENER KLAVIERFORUM" 2026 for

EXCELLENT AMATEUR PIANISTS

Deadline for video applications: July 1, 2026

Finalist audition: November 20, 2026

Großer Ehrbarsaal, Mühlgasse 30, 1040 Wien

All pianists aged 20 and over (no upper age limit) who do not currently earn their living from playing the piano are eligible to participate. All pianists are invited, regardless of whether they received institutional or private training. An academic degree in piano is desirable but not required. However, the participants' skill level should be comparable to or higher than that of a conservatory. Applications are open to all interested individuals and are based on self-assessment.

A competition for all excellent amateur pianists who...

  • play the piano at a high artistic level and have prepared a convincing programme,

  • want to develop further as musicians and bring their repertoire to the stage,

  • choose Vienna as a destination for music, culture and inspiration,

  • are looking for a competition that truly values quality and lifelong artistic dedication.

PARTICIPANTS

Ages 20 and up, no upper age limit. All nationalities welcome. Prerequisite: Participants must not be able to earn their living, or no longer able to, through playing the piano. If participants hold an academic degree in piano performance, it must have been obtained at least two years prior.​

WOELFL PRIZE

Every participant has the opportunity to take part in the Woelfl Prize. To do so, a piece from the required repertoire list must be included in the program. The sheet music will be provided free of charge.

AWARD CEREMONY

The award ceremony will take place in person on November 21, 2026.

Video pre-selection. 10-12 minute free program, performed from memory.​

Final round in person in Vienna. 20-minute free program. One piece from the first round may be repeated (max. 7 minutes).
